The Hungry Caterpillar is one of those things that never gets old. I enjoyed it as a child and I have enjoyed sharing it with the Little A’s.
As regular readers will know, Little Miss A is a very creative little person. An afternoon of crafts is her perfect way to spend a few hours.
When two craft sets based on the Hungry Caterpillar arrived from Rainbow Designs I knew they would be right up Little Miss A’s street.
We received two kits to have fun with. The Foam Characters Set and the Super Dough Caterpillar.
Little Miss A couldn’t wait to get started and wanted to start with the dough set. This kit contains everything you need to create a model of the Hungry Caterpillar together with an apple.
The dough comes nicely packaged in plastic pots and is really easy to model with. The dough felt almost sponge like as we were modelling it. There were instructions included and Little Miss A and I sat together to create all of the pieces we needed. The pieces stuck together easily and Little Miss A had a lot of fun putting all of the pieces together to create the well know character. The dough air dries so we left him on the windowsill together with his apple to dry out. After around 24 hours the dough had dried and we had a really bright, colourful Hungry Caterpillar.
I was really impressed with this craft kit. The instructions were easy to follow and Little Miss A was able to do a lot of it herself, with only a little assistance. I think the finished item looks fab too!
The next kit Little Miss A wanted to have a go at was the Foam Characters Design kit. In this set you receive two art boards together with sticky foam pieces, pom poms, glitter glue and ribbons.
Little Miss A was determined to create this on her own so I left her with all of the pieces she needed to create the butterfly picture which she copied off the box, adding in her own creative flare. The kit was really easy for her to complete on her own and she had a lot of fun completing it too.
Again, I was really pleased with this kit. There are lots of pieces to create the pictures together with some extra bits for children to add their own style to it. I loved that it was so easy for Little Miss A to complete on her own. It is a great kit to sit her down with for a few minutes peace! I know that she can’t get into too much mess with it either and she is going to create a pretty picture to hang on her wall.
The kits are aimed at children aged 3+ which I would say is about right, however, I think younger children may need a fair bit of help with the dough kit.
We have really enjoyed using these Hungry Caterpillar craft kits and would certainly consider purchasing more in the future. To find out more you can follow Rainbow Designs on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The kits are available to purchase from Tesco.
